For thousands of years after Adam and Eve chose their way over God’s way, God reached out to His creation. Through miracles, spiritual leaders, and prophets, God spoke. God called. But His people would not listen.

After the last prophet, named Malachi, spoke about a coming messenger who would prepare the way for the Messiah, things got very quiet. Uncomfortably quiet. No more prophets. Only silence.

From a biblical prophet perspective, the people heard nothing from God for the next 400 years. But don’t confuse silence with stillness. Behind the scenes, God was laying the groundwork and setting the stage for the greatest act yet. Jesus was coming.

As uncomfortable, unsettling, and awkward that silence can be, don’t lose sight of this. When you are in a silent season of life, trust that God is setting the stage for something special. In that silent season, prepare yourself! Be teachable. Be alert. Expect great things. Stay close to Him.

Take a moment now to tell God that He has your attention. No matter how long it takes. No matter how long you have to wait. No matter how quiet things seem to be. You’re waiting. Watching. And listening.
